چکیده

The antiviral potential of human colostral leucocytes was assessed by their capacity to produce interferon. Leucocytes cultured from colostrum were stimulated by mitogens or Newcastle disease virus (NDV) to produce interferon which, by metabolic and physicochemical criteria, corresponded to normal human leucocyte interferon. Prepartum cells produced higher levels than postpartum cells. Colostral cells were less efficient producers than blood leucocytes.

Colostral proteins from cows immunised with Streptococcus mutans/S. sobrinus support the phagocytosis and killing of mutans streptococci by human leucocytes.

Passive immunisation, based on bovine colostral preparations, is an area of active research. Specific bovine antibodies inhibit the virulence factors of target pathogens but the interactions between whey preparations and human immune defence cells are not well known. Bovine colostrum inhibits the phagocytic activity of bovine leucocytes and this may reflect the biological activity of immunoglob...

IL-15 and IL-15R in leucocytes from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

OBJECTIVE To assess the functional status of the IL-15/IL-15Ralpha cytokine system in different leucocyte subsets from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS Eighteen patients with SLE (10 with inactive and eight with active disease) and 14 healthy individuals were studied. Serum levels and in vitro production of IL-15 were determined. In addition, the expression of IL-15 r...

Inflammatory cytokines responses of common carp, Cyprinus carpio, leucocytes in vitro treated by immunostimulants

Cytokines are important regulators of the immune system, and identifying fish cytokines has potential applications for the development of vaccines and/or immunostimulants application in fisheries. In order to understand the immune-related genes triggered by immunostimulants derived from pathogens, we investigated the effects of agonists (lipopolysaccharide (LPS), Poly I:C, and imiquimod) of thr...

The Effect of Beta Interferon on Dendritic Cells and Cytokine Synthesis by CD4+ T Cells

Background: Dendritic cells (DC) are a key regulator of the immune response, and interferon- beta (IFN-β) is considered an immunomodulatory molecule for DC. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of IFN-β treated DC to induce cytokine secretion by CD4+ T cells. Methods: Dendritic cells were generated from blood monocytes with granulocyte-monocyte colony-stimulating fac...

Measurement of DNA synthesis in leucocyte microcultures.

A microculture technique is described in which human peripheral blood leucocytes undergo DNA synthesis in response to specific and non-specific blastogenic factors. A sensitive Millipore filter assay technique is shown to be suitable for determining the incorporation of radioactive thymidine into the DNA of the stimulated cells in these microcultures. With these methods it is possible to measur...
